PT-141 10mg

PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide, is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It functions as a non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors (MC1R–MC5R), with particularly high affinity for MC3R and MC4R — receptor subtypes localized in the hypothalamus and implicated in central regulation of arousal and appetite. Unlike peripherally acting compounds, PT-141 operates through central nervous system pathways, making it a subject of broad neuroendocrine research interest.

Mechanisms of Research Interest

PT-141 exerts its effects primarily through agonism at MC3R and MC4R receptors within the hypothalamus, activating dopaminergic neurotransmission pathways associated with motivation and arousal. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors, its mechanism is non-vascular, acting upstream in the CNS to modulate behavioral and physiological responses. Preclinical studies have also examined its potential role in appetite suppression via melanocortin circuit activation in the arcuate nucleus.

Research Applications

PT-141 10mg is employed in studies of melanocortin system pharmacology, sexual dysfunction pathway research, hypothalamic neuroendocrine signaling, and behavioral neuroscience. Its well-characterized receptor binding profile makes it a valuable reference compound for melanocortin receptor research programs.
